Australia were 196 for four after 66 overs on the fifth day of the second Test against South Africa, still 130 runs behind as Travis Head continued to find runs in an effort to prevent defeat.
Head was joined by Scott Boland, who had faced 70 deliveries for 13 runs as Australia negotiated the closing stages. Boland was nearing his career best for balls faced in a Test innings, with that mark standing at 74.
“He’s fast reaching unchartered territory,” former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock said during the broadcast.
The pitch remained favourable for batting, although strong gusts continued to sweep across the ground. Clouds were also moving in and out as Kagiso Rabada bowled for South Africa during the day-five resistance.
