Josh Inglis struck a century for Australia against South Africa, reaching three figures from 132 balls with a reverse sweep off Simon Harmer.
The innings was Inglis’s second hundred in six Tests, following his century on debut in Galle against Sri Lanka last year.
His form is likely to intensify competition for places in Australia’s side for the home Tests against New Zealand. Marnus Labuschagne has gone well over three years without making a century, making it difficult to see Inglis being left out.
Steve Smith, whenever he is ready to return, may consequently have to move up to number three.
