The South Carolina State Senate adjourned Tuesday without taking up a measure that would redraw the state’s congressional districts. The UK record for the hottest May day has been broken for a second day in a row, as parts of London surpassed 35C on Tuesday. Kew Gardens in south-west London recorded a provisional temperature of 35.1C, beating Monday’s 34.8C record-high in the same place. A body has been found in a search for a 12-year-old boy who went missing while swimming in a river. The boy was with friends when he got into difficulty in the River Ribble, Ribchester, Lancashire, at about 14:00 BST on Tuesday. Eight spectators had to be taken to hospital after a motorbike rider crashed into a crowd on the opening day of practice in the Isle of Man TT races.
