Edgewater city leaders have approved a ban on artificial intelligence data centres, moving to block large-scale developments before any company submits a proposal to build one in the Florida city. The city council voted unanimously on Monday, September 14, to impose the prohibition with immediate effect. Mayor Diezel DePew described it as a permanent moratorium, although the ordinance could be overturned by a future council. The measure is intended to remain in place until residents vote on a proposed change to the city charter in November. The charter proposal, approved by the council in August, would formally prohibit data centres…

Norris, who died in March, built a decades-long television career and was best known for starring in all nine seasons of the action series Walker, Texas Ranger. His other television credits included The Goldbergs, Hawaii Five-0 and Sons of Thunder, while he also fronted the animated series Chuck Norris: Karate Commandos. Chase’s omission was criticised by Johnny Ryan, her manager and friend. “These f***ing Emmys snubbed Daveigh…

Florida officials are considering buying coastal land beside Caladesi Island State Park in a move that could protect wildlife habitat and create a possible land-based link to one of the state’s most secluded beaches. The property at Mandalay Point, on the northern tip of Clearwater Beach, is being assessed for acquisition through Florida Forever, the state’s conservation and recreation land-buying programme. The deal has not yet been completed. The wider estate is advertised as covering about 42.57 acres and includes a three-bedroom, three-bathroom house. However, a preliminary state evaluation describes the proposed purchase as covering approximately 27.9 acres of undeveloped…

Pauline Hanson has apologised to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over remarks about his late mother’s long-term public housing tenancy, after facing criticism for comments made in a television interview. The One Nation leader also apologised for describing Aboriginal Australians as “the most primitive race on earth” during a separate podcast interview last year. Hanson addressed both controversies on Tuesday, having been accused of avoiding cameras after her comments about Maryanne Albanese resurfaced last week. Asked whether she regretted criticising the Prime Minister’s mother, Hanson initially defended her remarks, saying: “I raised a comment with regards to housing commission. My…

Loudoun County officials in Virginia are due to discuss a possible data centre moratorium on Tuesday, as growing opposition to the industry’s rapid expansion puts pressure on the community’s long-standing economic model. The Board of Supervisors is expected to consider a proposal to pause new data centre applications at its meeting in Leesburg at 4pm. The initiative is being led by Algonkian District Supervisor Juli Briskman, who has argued that the county needs time to assess the impact of further development. The debate follows a 6-1 vote in July directing county staff to examine whether a pause could be introduced…
