Trainer Ciaron Maher was $2,000 out of pocket after an imported horse was treated with an ulcer-prevention paste on race day at the Werribee quarantine centre.
Maher’s representative, Jack Turnbull, pleaded guilty to racing stewards on the trainer’s behalf over the use of Gastropell on Point Of Law, which breached racing rules.
Point Of Law was subsequently scratched from the Caulfield Cup. The decision did not affect the race field, as the horse was the third emergency and was not due to gain a start.
Stable hand Samantha Waters, who usually looks after Pride Of Jenni, was also fined over the incident after using inappropriate language towards stewards.
