Bob Mackie’s cause of death has been recorded as a subarachnoid haemorrhage and blunt head trauma suffered after a fall days before he died.
The celebrated fashion and costume designer fell on September 11 at the home of his longtime design director, Joseph McFate. He died three days later at a hospital in Palm Springs, aged 87.
Mackie’s death certificate lists bleeding around the brain as his immediate cause of death, alongside the serious head injury.
He had been staying in a guest house at Mr McFate’s home, and a healthcare professional was with him when he fell. A representative for Mackie also confirmed that he had been battling pneumonia before and after his hospitalisation.
The documents state that Mackie was cremated and that his ashes were scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego County.
Over a career spanning Hollywood and fashion, Mackie became known for dressing stars including Cher, Elton John and Carol Burnett.
