Chelsea have had a €45 million bid for Lamine Camara rejected by Monaco as they seek midfield cover amid Manchester City’s pursuit of Enzo Fernández.
The offer for the 22-year-old Senegal international was understood to be an opening proposal, with negotiations continuing on transfer deadline day. Monaco are reluctant to part with Camara and are believed to value him above the figure tabled by the London club.
Camara has emerged as one of Chelsea’s preferred options as Fernández’s proposed move to Manchester City advances. Chelsea have already rejected one approach for the Argentina international and are not expected to sanction his departure until they are confident of bringing in a replacement.

The midfielder has impressed since joining Monaco and is regarded as a player capable of making the step up to the Premier League. His energy, physical strength and ability to provide defensive cover would offer Chelsea a different option in the centre of the pitch.
Reports have also claimed that Camara has spoken to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso over a possible move. The Senegalese is said to be keen on the opportunity, although an agreement between the clubs has yet to be reached.
Manchester City remain in talks with Chelsea over Fernández, with reports suggesting their latest proposal is worth more than £120 million. Chelsea’s decision-makers are therefore working against the clock to strengthen their midfield before allowing the 25-year-old to leave.
Camara is not the only player under consideration. Chelsea are also exploring a deal for Roma midfielder Manu Koné, while other targets have been discussed as the club assess how best to replace Fernández.
Monaco’s rejection means Chelsea would need to improve their offer if they are to complete a deal for Camara. With the transfer window closing on Tuesday, the next stage of talks could determine whether he becomes the club’s latest midfield addition.
