Liverpool have made contact with Felix Nmecha’s representatives as they assess midfield options for 2027, but the Borussia Dortmund player is not currently considered their leading target.
The club are expected to strengthen centrally after Curtis Jones left for Inter Milan during the summer without a direct replacement being signed. Nmecha is among those under consideration, although Alex Scott of Bournemouth and Monaco’s Lamine Camara are understood to sit higher on Liverpool’s current shortlist.
Liverpool’s midfield shortlist takes shape
Sky Germany reports that Liverpool have recently spoken to Nmecha’s camp after monitoring his performances for Dortmund. However, the club are not preparing a formal offer for the Germany international at this stage.
Nmecha has established himself as an important player for the Bundesliga side and is contracted until 2030. He has made 123 competitive appearances for Dortmund, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists.
The midfielder’s versatility, technical ability and experience in Germany make him a credible option. However, reports indicate that Liverpool’s preference is currently for a player who can either become an immediate starter or develop into a long-term first-team regular.
Fabrizio Romano has also said that Liverpool are tracking Scott and Camara, with the club intending to make a significant midfield addition in 2027.
Scott would offer familiarity with the football played at Bournemouth, where he has worked with Andoni Iraola. He is regarded as a player capable of carrying the ball, pressing effectively and retaining possession, although a potential price of more than £80 million could prove a significant obstacle.
Camara is viewed as a younger and potentially more affordable alternative. His athleticism and scope for development could make him a long-term solution without the level of investment that Scott may require.
Nmecha could therefore become more prominent if Scott’s valuation proves prohibitive or Monaco are unwilling to negotiate over Camara. For now, though, Liverpool’s midfield priorities appear to lie with the Bournemouth and Monaco players rather than the Dortmund midfielder.
