Chocolate eyeball sweets sold at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post have been recalled in the US after they were found to contain milk that was not declared on the packaging.
Crystal Temptations, based in North Arlington, New Jersey, issued the recall on 31 August 2026 for its Little Temptations Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs. The Food and Drug Administration warned that people with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity could suffer a serious or potentially life-threatening reaction.
The products were distributed through stores in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming. No illnesses had been reported when the recall was announced.
Five varieties are covered, ranging from 7oz to 16oz. They include a 7oz acrylic box, 10oz and 11oz plastic bags, a 10.5oz round plastic jar and a 16oz designer pouch.
Consumers should check the labels for style numbers 54077-CHEY, 54040-CHEY, 54083-CHEY, 58008-CHEY or 58089-CHEY. The affected sweets are sold under the Crystal Temptations name, with packaging designs including “Spooks & Spells”, “Sweet Scary Treats” and other Halloween-themed labels.
The recall began after an analyst working for TJX, the parent company of the retailers, identified that the chocolate contained whey, a milk ingredient, despite the allergen not appearing on the packaging.
An investigation by the company attributed the problem to a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes.
Anyone who has bought the recalled chocolate eyeballs should destroy them rather than eat them. Stores will not provide refunds, but Crystal Temptations will issue one to customers who contact the company with proof of purchase.
