Concord’s Taco Trail Challenge has returned, inviting diners to explore more than 40 family-owned Mexican restaurants and taquerias across the California city. Cristina Gutierrez and Fabian Lopez of Mercado del Sol appeared on KTVU’s The Nine to explain how the month-long event works.
The self-guided Concord Taco Trail runs from 15 September to 15 October 2026, with participating venues spread across neighbourhoods including Monument Boulevard, Todos Santos, Willow Pass Road and Clayton Road.
Participants can collect a free challenge card and map from the Concord Visitor Centre or any participating taqueria. Each visit earns a Taco Trail sticker, with no minimum purchase required; diners can also use a photograph or receipt to claim a sticker if one is not available at the restaurant.
The person who visits the most participating locations during the challenge will be named the 2026 Taco Trail Champion. The prize includes a $250 taco party and taco-themed merchandise.
The scheme also gives visitors the chance to vote for the Fan Favourite Taqueria and Best Salsa. Mercado del Sol, at 1450 Monument Boulevard, is among the featured stops on the trail.
A launch party was held at Las Montañas on 11 September, with mariachi music, tacos and drinks. Visit Concord is due to announce the champion and the winners of the two additional categories on 16 October.
