Max Ehrich, the former fiancé of Demi Lovato, was arrested in Florida over alleged possession of nitrous oxide, according to an arrest affidavit. Police found the former child actor at a shopping centre on 25 August after he called 911 and then ended the call.
Officers said they found Ehrich in bushes beside a plastic bag containing a large nitrous oxide canister labelled “Max Cream Charger”. The affidavit states that he appeared “dazed and showed a lack of balance when standing”.
Police said they did not see Ehrich inhale or use the substance. However, they noted that a nozzle was attached to the canister, which they said suggested it had probably been used before they arrived.
Ehrich reportedly told officers that he wanted to obtain medicine from his parents’ home but did not feel comfortable going there. He also said he had no intention of harming himself.
His parents told police that they believed he was addicted to nitrous oxide. Ehrich was subsequently arrested, although the affidavit does not state that officers directly witnessed him using the gas.
He was taken to hospital after saying that he felt unwell before being transported to jail. He was released shortly afterwards after posting bond.
The arrest follows Ehrich’s detention in November 2025 on allegations of domestic violence involving a family member. He was released after posting 1,000 US dollars in bond.
Ehrich and Lovato were engaged for a short period in 2020. He is known for appearing in The Young and the Restless and High School Musical 3.
He has not responded to a request for comment.
