Simple gut-friendly recipes and more manageable ways to eat healthily are being highlighted in a Fox 2 Detroit feature with registered dietitian Rachel Dyckman.
Speaking to reporter Ronia Shamona, Dyckman discussed practical food choices aimed at supporting digestive health, with a focus on meals that are straightforward to prepare and adaptable to individual needs.
Gut-friendly recipes for Crohn’s and colitis
The feature promotes the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s online collection of recipes, which has been reviewed by dietitians specialising in inflammatory bowel disease. The resource includes ideas for breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner, as well as options for different dietary preferences and stages of illness.
Examples listed by the foundation include banana pancakes, asparagus with eggs, baked salmon with cucumber and dill sauce, root vegetable crisps and a millet bowl with beetroot houmous.
The foundation stresses that there is no single diet suitable for everyone with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Food tolerance can vary according to symptoms, the texture of ingredients and whether someone is experiencing a flare-up or remission.
Its dietary guidance recommends making changes gradually, staying hydrated and using simple cooking methods such as boiling, roasting, grilling, steaming and poaching. People with ongoing symptoms are advised to seek personalised support from their healthcare team or an inflammatory bowel disease-focused dietitian.
Dyckman, who runs a private nutrition practice focused on digestive health, also serves on the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s National Scientific Advisory Committee. The organisation says its recipe collection is intended to make meal planning less stressful while helping people maintain variety in their diets.
