An 18-year-old man accused of shooting two people outside an Eden Prairie high school homecoming football game has been released on bond ahead of his first court appearance.
Adam Abdihakeem Adam, of St Louis Park, Minnesota, was released from Hennepin County Jail on Saturday, 10 October, after posting a $100,000 bond, court and jail records show. A cash bond of $10,000 was also listed.
Eden Prairie homecoming shooting case
Adam faces two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of second-degree riot while armed with a dangerous weapon. His next hearing is scheduled for 1.30pm on Monday, 12 October, in Hennepin County Court.
The charges relate to gunfire outside Eden Prairie High School on 2 October, during a homecoming game against Minnetonka. One shot was fired and two people, aged 17 and 18, were struck and taken for medical treatment, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
The shooting prompted the evacuation of the stadium and school grounds. Police have said the victims were not students at either Eden Prairie or Minnetonka high schools.
According to the criminal complaint, surveillance footage showed two cars entering a parking area before a fight involving about 10 people broke out near the vehicles. The driver of one car allegedly got out, fired at the two victims and fled.
Investigators allege that Adam was driving his brother’s car. Police tracked a mobile phone travelling with the vehicle before, during and after the shooting, the charges state, and say Adam later abandoned the phone and changed his number.
Officers who searched Adam’s home in St Louis Park found clothing which prosecutors say matched what the suspected gunman was wearing in the surveillance footage.
Adam was arrested without incident on 8 October near Highway 55 and Penn Avenue in Minneapolis. Police have described the shooting as targeted and gang-related, while saying the wider investigation remains active and that further arrests or charges are possible.
