Hyundai is recalling 94,622 vehicles in the United States after a fault affecting powered front seats was linked to a potential fire risk.
The recall covers 54,644 Hyundai Genesis saloons from the 2015 and 2016 model years, along with 39,978 Genesis G80 vehicles built between 2017 and 2020. The campaign is listed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under recall number 26V664000. ([m.ajupress.com](https://m.ajupress.com/view/20261017115952026))
The problem concerns the switch used to adjust the seat’s position and height. Hyundai said the control may become dislodged or damaged after external force, causing it to remain engaged and allowing the adjustment motor to run continuously even after the vehicle has been vacated.
Extended operation could cause the motor to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire whether the car is being driven or left parked. Possible warning signs include a burning smell and seat controls that no longer work.
Owners told to park affected cars outdoors
The NHTSA has advised owners to park affected vehicles outside and away from other cars, buildings and structures until the repair has been completed.
Hyundai estimates that around 1 per cent of the recalled vehicles contain the defect. The company has reported two fires associated with the problem, but said there had been no crashes or injuries linked to it in the US as of October 1.
A permanent remedy is still being developed. Once available, the work will be carried out free of charge by Hyundai dealers or Genesis retailers, and owners are expected to receive notification letters from December 7. ([m.ajupress.com](https://m.ajupress.com/view/20261017115952026))
Vehicle identification numbers for the affected cars became searchable through the NHTSA recall system on October 13. Owners who believe their vehicle may be included should check its recall status and follow the outdoor-parking advice until the repair is carried out.
