Jadon Sancho has rejected the chance to join Getafe and is reportedly moving closer to a transfer to Saudi Arabia after receiving a more lucrative offer.
The 26-year-old has been a free agent since his Manchester United contract expired in June. He spent the previous period of his career on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Jadon Sancho turns down Getafe offer
Getafe had explored signing Sancho as they sought to provide him with a route back into one of Europe’s major leagues. However, the Spanish club could not meet his reported demand for around €3 million net until the end of the season.
Marca reports that a proposal from Saudi Arabia matches Sancho’s financial expectations. The identity of the interested club has not been disclosed, but talks with his representatives are understood to be progressing.
Sancho had been considering remaining in Europe, with Getafe viewed as a realistic destination. Interest had also emerged from Premier League clubs, Major League Soccer, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, although none of those options developed sufficiently to secure his signature.
The decision represents a significant moment for the former Manchester United winger, who was once regarded as one of Europe’s most exciting young attackers. United paid a substantial fee to sign him, but he did not consistently reproduce the form he had shown at Borussia Dortmund at Old Trafford.
A move to Saudi Arabia would offer Sancho greater financial security, while potentially making a return to elite European football more difficult. He remains 26 and could still seek to revive his career at the highest level, but he has now spent several months without competitive football.
