Marilyn Monroe’s former Palm Springs home has sold for $2.81 million to local designer Violet Moran, who plans to restore the property while preserving its character and design.
The house, which Monroe owned in the early 1960s, covers about 3,000 square feet and includes four bedrooms, four bathrooms, vaulted ceilings, several entertaining areas and a private swimming pool.
Moran is understood to be delighted to take on the property, where one of her favourite celebrities once lived. Although she intends to make the home her own, she also plans to maintain its integrity and aesthetic.
An invitation-only housewarming event is apparently due to take place at the Palm Springs property this weekend, with HGTV expected to film it.
The sale was completed by Nick Adler, founder of M Star Studios. David Emerson of Coldwell Banker Realty held the listing and represented Moran as the buyer.
Emerson said he enjoys working with historic houses such as the Monroe property, which combine celebrity associations with distinctive architecture.
