Four people have been found shot dead inside a house in Gastonia, North Carolina, after police received an emergency 911 call on Thursday morning, September 10.
Officers were sent to the property near Forbes Road, close to Charlotte, where they discovered the victims inside the single-family home. Police attempted to provide emergency aid, but all four people were found dead.
Gaston County Police said detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No motive has been disclosed and authorities have not said whether a suspect has been identified or arrested.
“Gaston County Police detectives are actively investigating the incident,” the department said in a statement. Residents were asked to avoid the area while officers processed the scene.
A neighbour told local broadcaster WSOC-TV that they heard between five and six shots before police arrived.
A woman who said she was friends with one of the residents later went to the property after becoming concerned that her colleague had not turned up for work. She told the broadcaster that the woman would not normally fail to attend without warning.
Special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting with the investigation. Police have not released the identities of the four people killed.
Gastonia, a city of about 72,000 people, lies roughly 22 miles from Charlotte. The investigation remains ongoing.
