The Duke and Duchess of Sussex appear to have ended their search for a permanent country home in Britain after moving into a property on a friend’s Cotswolds estate.
Harry and Meghan were reportedly prepared to spend up to £10 million on a house after returning from California at the end of August. Instead, they have moved from the friend’s main residence into another property on the same estate.
The Sussexes had been staying with the wealthy businessman since arriving in the UK. A friend of the businessman said: “They were living in the main house. They have now moved to a property on the estate.”
The move took place the weekend before the family travelled abroad during the half-term holiday at the school attended by their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Harry is said to have become friends with the businessman through their shared support for military charities. The businessman is reportedly happy for Harry, Meghan and their children to remain on his estate.
The couple continue to own their £19.5 million mansion in Montecito, California, which includes a wine cellar, cinema, gym, spa, swimming pool, tennis court, wood-fired stove, barbecue and 13-and-a-half bathrooms.
In 2024, the Sussexes were also reported to have bought a coastal property in Portugal, close to the home of Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, at the CostaTerra Golf & Ocean Club near Melides.
Harry and Meghan’s Cotswolds home search
The couple had been looking for a Cotswolds home with extensive land, no public rights of way and at least nine bedrooms. Their move to a property on a friend’s estate suggests that search may now have been put on hold.
