Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard arrived on This Morning nursing the effects of a late night after celebrating the programme’s success at the 2026 National Television Awards.
The presenters tucked into bacon and egg sandwiches prepared by Jamie Oliver during Wednesday’s live broadcast, as they reflected on nearly losing the Best Daytime gong after the ceremony at London’s O2 arena.
Holding the award aloft at the start of the programme, Deeley joked: “It’s really heavy, isn’t it? You almost lost it this morning, didn’t you?”
Shephard replied: “We got it here, might have a little graze on it, but that’s another story for another day.”
This Morning beat Good Morning Britain, James Martin’s Saturday Morning, Loose Women and Scam Interceptors to take the Daytime prize, with the result confirmed by the National Television Awards. ([nationaltvawards.com](https://www.nationaltvawards.com/winners?utm_source=openai))
“We won best daytime show at last night’s television awards, it was just fab, wasn’t it?” Deeley said.
Oliver, who was appearing in the studio kitchen, served the pair smoky bacon and egg sandwiches with brown sauce and chilli.
“I’ve sorted you right out. I know what you need when you’ve had a long one,” the chef told them.
Shephard admitted that the night had run late, adding that even the programme’s director had been out celebrating.
Deeley said she had left the party relatively early because she usually shared her bed with one of her children. She recalled her son Milo coming into her room at about 2am and asking: “Mum, did you win?”
“I said, ‘Yes, now close your eyes and go back to sleep’,” she said.
Oliver said chilli contained capsaicin and claimed it could help after drinking, while adding that “nothing’s better than a bacon sandwich” after a few too many glasses of wine.
Shephard joked that the presenters had been “working very hard celebrating on behalf of all our fans”.
The win marked another success for the ITV programme, which has previously dominated the category and returned to the top in 2025 after losing out in 2023 and 2024. Deeley and Shephard were joined in the celebrations by Friday presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, while the wider This Morning team appeared in high spirits after the ceremony.
