The Practical Magic sequel sees Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock return as witch sisters Gillian and Sally Owens, bringing a cult 1998 film back to the screen with a more mature perspective on love, loss and female friendship.
Once dismissed by critics and underwhelming at the box office, the supernatural comedy developed a devoted following over the years. Its enduring appeal has helped turn the reunion into one of the most anticipated fantasy releases of 2026.
At the centre of the new film is the bond between the Owens sisters. Their story places modern sisterhood alongside the difficult choices that come with romance, suggesting that emotional vulnerability remains a risk worth taking even after heartbreak.
Warner Bros says the sisters will face a renewed threat from the family’s dark curse, which has long placed those they love in danger. The sequel is directed by Susanne Bier from a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman, Georgia Pritchett and Kelly Marcel.
The returning cast also includes Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, while Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod join the film. Bullock and Kidman are also among its producers. ([practicalmagicmovie.com](https://www.practicalmagicmovie.com/home/))
Practical Magic sequel brings the Owens sisters into a new generation
The film draws on Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic, while retaining the mix of romance, family history and supernatural danger that defined the original. Its focus on the next generation gives the story a chance to revisit the Owens family’s legacy without abandoning the relationship at its heart.
Practical Magic 2 is due to arrive in UK cinemas on 11 September 2026, with Warner Bros distributing the film internationally. It will be released in North American cinemas the same month. ([dcm.co.uk](https://www.dcm.co.uk/films/filmid-0783bcf6-403f-4a01-a3ee-7fcdac8af1c8?utm_source=openai))
