Liverpool are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha as an alternative to Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, whose asking price is understood to have risen above £100 million.
Scott is regarded as one of Liverpool’s leading midfield targets for January, with Chelsea also among the clubs showing strong interest. However, Bournemouth are reportedly seeking between £110 million and £115 million for the 23-year-old.
That valuation could prove prohibitive for Liverpool, prompting the club to examine other options. Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara is another name under consideration, while Nmecha has emerged as a potential Bundesliga alternative.
Liverpool keeping close watch on Felix Nmecha
Nmecha, 26, was linked with Liverpool and other Premier League clubs during the summer. Manchester United and Chelsea were also said to have admired the Germany international, although neither club completed a deal for him.
United subsequently brought in Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while Chelsea turned to other targets and missed out on both Scott and Camara.
Nmecha signed a new contract with Dortmund in January, but that has not ended Liverpool’s interest. Recruitment staff at Anfield are understood to regard him as an undervalued player who could make an immediate impact in Andoni Iraola’s side.
“Liverpool know Nmecha well and admire his qualities,” one source said. “While I wouldn’t expect him to be a priority target, he’s someone they’d be ready to turn to if Alex Scott proves too expensive or chooses another option.”
Sources close to Dortmund insist Nmecha is not for sale. However, it is understood that the German club could be willing to open discussions over a fee of about €90 million, equivalent to roughly £75.9 million.
Nmecha made three first-team appearances for Manchester City between 2018 and 2021 and represented England at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Germany, the country of his birth.
