Investigators said Davis had been travelling westbound when his vehicle failed to remain in one lane and crossed several lanes of traffic. It struck a Toyota 4Runner before moving towards the northbound side of the motorway.
The vehicle then collided with a Kia Forte driven by Kyerra Fields and hit a concrete barrier, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Jersey Village emergency medical crews took Davis to HCA Houston Healthcare North Cypress, where he later died from his injuries. The circumstances that caused him to lose control remain under investigation. Davis had served with the Lone Star College Police Department for 15 years. He was also a retired Houston Police Department officer.
Lone Star College System said it was aware of the incident and offered its condolences to those affected, but said it could not comment on the details out of respect for those involved.
The Lone Star College Police Department described Davis as a valued colleague whose friendship, guidance and presence had made a lasting impression on the department and the wider college community.
In a tribute shared after his death, the department said his loss would be felt by his family, friends, former Houston police colleagues and the Lone Star College police family.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
