A man was shot and killed in the car park of a Norfolk Southern intermodal facility in Austell, Georgia, after arriving for a night shift, police said.
The shooting happened on Monday evening, 14 September, at the site off Highway 278. The victim was reportedly dropped off by a relative shortly before his 10pm shift.
Witnesses said three men emerged from another vehicle as he began to leave the family member’s truck and opened fire. The attackers then drove away, according to accounts given to local media.
Investigation into Austell shooting
The victim died at the scene. His identity had not been released, but witnesses described him as being in his mid-to-late 20s and relatively new to the job, having worked for Norfolk Southern for about a month.
Austell police responded to the facility and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to assist with the case.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive, nor released descriptions of the three suspects or the vehicle used to leave the scene.
