Arsenal and Newcastle United are tracking Cruzeiro midfielder Eduardo Pape, with Bayern Munich also monitoring the highly rated Brazilian teenager ahead of a possible move next summer.
The 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for Cruzeiro but has impressed at youth level, attracting attention for his intelligence, positional awareness and ability to control matches from central midfield.
Arsenal and Newcastle face competition for Eduardo Pape
Pape’s style has reportedly drawn comparisons with Manchester City midfielder Rodri, while scouts have been encouraged by his technical ability and potential to develop into an elite player.
Arsenal could regard the teenager as a long-term investment as Mikel Arteta continues to build a squad capable of competing for major honours. His qualities in possession and in organising midfield transitions could offer a route into the club’s academy and eventually the first team.
Newcastle are also following his progress, but Bayern Munich have strengthened their interest by sending scouts to watch Pape during an international youth tournament in Switzerland.
Cruzeiro set €40m valuation for Brazilian prospect
Any deal is likely to be complicated by Cruzeiro’s demands. Pape is under contract until 2029, with an €100 million release clause for foreign clubs, although the Brazilian side are reportedly willing to consider offers of about €40 million.
Neither Arsenal nor Newcastle can complete a transfer before Pape turns 18 in March 2027 because of UK regulations. With Bayern also in the running, the Premier League clubs face a potentially difficult battle for one of Brazil’s most closely watched young midfielders.
