Child pornography was allegedly found in a storage unit rented by Thomas Markle Sr in Rosarito, Mexico, according to a report which says the material has been brought to the attention of the FBI.
The storage unit, in a beach town near the US border, was reportedly inspected after Markle allegedly failed to keep up with lease payments. It was said to be only a few miles from his former residence.
The report alleges that magazines containing images of child sexual abuse, voyeuristic photographs of children on beaches and books about paedophilia were found inside.
It also refers to photographs in which Markle is said to pose with a young, clothed Asian girl, alongside another image in which the girl is allegedly naked. Books depicting naked girls were reportedly found in the unit as well.
Markle has previously denied possessing child pornography and has denied ever having sex with anyone underage. He is also under criminal investigation in the Philippines over alleged possession of child pornography.
His son, Thomas Markle Jr, is said to have made the discovery and claimed he had “no option” but to report his father.
The FBI has reportedly been alerted to the alleged findings. The agency was approached for comment but had not responded at the time of publication.
Markle’s daughter, Meghan, has previously said she cut off his contact with her children after receiving a letter detailing similar accusations. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that it sent the letter in early 2019.
Philippine officials have said that child pornography examined during their investigation pointed to a sex offender of the “grossest kind”.
