A motorcyclist has died after crashing on a coastal road and falling into the sea near Llandudno.
North Wales Police, HM Coastguard and the RNLI launched a search after reports that a man had left his black motorcycle and entered the water below the Great Orme limestone headland on Thursday night.
He was recovered by helicopter and airlifted to neighbouring Bangor, where he was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed and the coroner notified.
Police are investigating the incident as a fatal road traffic collision and are seeking a black car, possibly a Ford Fiesta, which is believed to have been in the area at the time.
The vehicle travelled along Mostyn Street into North Parade before heading towards the Great Orme at about 10.26pm, police said.
Sergeant Alun Jones, of North Wales Police’s Roads Crime Unit, appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage.
“Sadly, this is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision, and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this very difficult time,” he said.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the collision, or who was travelling or walking along Marine Drive on Thursday evening, to come forward.
They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who travelled from the Toll House towards the Great Orme summit between 10pm and 10.30pm.
“Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist with our investigation,” Sergeant Jones said.
