Police are investigating after a student allegedly displayed a handgun disguised as a mobile phone while travelling on a school bus in Arlington, Washington.
Officers from the Arlington Police Department recovered the weapon after responding to a report that a child had shown it to others on the bus. No injuries were reported.
The firearm was designed to resemble a mobile phone when folded, police said. Detectives are now examining how the student obtained it.
Authorities have not released the child’s name or other identifying details because the case involves a minor. They have also declined to say which school the bus was travelling to, or disclose the student’s age or year group.
The investigation remains under way. Once it is complete, the case is expected to be sent to the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, which will review whether charges should be brought.
