Two more mosquito traps in DeKalb County, Georgia, have tested positive for West Nile virus, taking the total number of positive traps this year to 10.
The newly identified traps were located in ZIP code 30033, covering North Decatur in unincorporated DeKalb, and 30319, which includes Brookhaven, DeKalb Public Health said.
Despite the spread detected through mosquito surveillance, no human cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in the county this year.
The latest findings follow positive results reported on 24 August, 18 August, 17 August and 22 July. Those earlier cases were identified in areas including Redan, Doraville, Avondale Estates, Clarkston, Decatur, Stonecrest, East Atlanta and parts of Brookhaven and North Druid Hills.
West Nile virus is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Health officials advise residents to reduce the risk by removing standing water from gardens and outdoor containers, repairing window and door screens, wearing long sleeves where possible and using an insect repellent such as DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR3535.
