One man has died and a three-year-old child has been injured after a head-on crash in New Braunfels, Texas, with two men arrested in connection with the collision.
Emergency crews were called to the 2500 block of FM 725 at about 7pm on Saturday 12 September after a pickup truck and a sedan crashed.
The 27-year-old driver of the sedan, who was from New Braunfels, died at the scene, according to New Braunfels Police Department. The child, who was travelling in the sedan, was taken to University Hospital in San Antonio and is expected to recover.
Two men arrested after New Braunfels crash
Police said the pickup driver, Rafael Alejandro Arreguin-Ramirez, 25, of Mexico, showed signs of intoxication following the crash.
After a blood search warrant was carried out at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, Arreguin-Ramirez was booked into Guadalupe County Jail. He faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The pickup’s passenger, Alejandro Aguillen Acosta, 23, also from Mexico, allegedly fled on foot into a nearby neighbourhood. Officers found him hiding in a garage and arrested him without further incident.
Acosta was taken to a local hospital for a precautionary assessment before being booked into the county jail. He faces charges of evading arrest or detention and criminal trespass of a habitation.
The New Braunfels Police Department’s traffic unit investigated the collision, while part of FM 725 was closed for about five hours. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and further charges could follow.
