Nicki Minaj joined Donald Trump on stage at a midterm election rally in Michigan on Sunday, where the president praised the rapper’s appearance and welcomed her continued support.
Minaj, 43, travelled aboard Air Force One before appearing with Mr Trump at the McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center in Port Huron.
During the rally, Mr Trump referred to remarks he had previously made about Republican Ohio senator Jon Husted’s body. He said those comments had been reported as “fake news” and were made “in fun”.
“I said: I looked at his a**, and I’ve never done that with a man before. It’s true. Off the record, women yes, men no, OK,” he told the crowd.
He then turned his attention to Minaj, saying: “By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a** before – Nicki Minaj.”
“That’s hard to miss. That – stand up! That’s hard to miss,” he added, before returning to his story and saying: “I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time.”
Nicki Minaj praises Trump’s economic record
Before the event, White House communications director Steven Cheung shared a video filmed with Minaj on the presidential plane and suggested she could become the next White House press secretary.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!” he wrote alongside the video.
Asked why she believed the economy was booming under Mr Trump, Minaj said the president “understands economics” and described him as “naturally a business man”.
She added: “He’s worked his way out of not having a dollar left in the bank. So if he can do that with himself and his own finances, surely he knows what to do with the country.”
Minaj also praised Mr Trump as “very tough”, saying he told other countries “what we need, not what they need”.
The rapper has previously discussed why she initially remained quiet about her support for Mr Trump. She also addressed criticism of that support last month.
