Oakland mayor Barbara Lee has won a full four-year term after voters backed her re-election and approved a measure giving the city’s mayor greater executive authority.
Unofficial final results from Alameda County showed Ms Lee with 84.3 per cent of first-choice votes in Tuesday’s election, well ahead of Julius Robinson, Mindy Ruth Pechenuk and Brenda F Grisham.
Measure EE, a proposed amendment to Oakland’s city charter, was also approved by a clear majority. The measure received 73.8 per cent support, with 53,600 votes in favour and 19,065 against.
The changes will give the mayor greater control over day-to-day city operations, as well as veto powers over certain City Council legislation and budget decisions.
Measure EE will also establish an independent budget and legislative analyst’s office within the council, with authority to issue subpoenas and compel testimony. Ms Lee, a former US congresswoman, was elected mayor in a special election in April 2025 and had been serving the remainder of the previous term.
