A house party shooting that killed 18-year-old Melinda Landeros in Phoenix nearly 18 years ago remains unsolved, with investigators renewing their appeal for information.
Landeros was at a property near 18th Street and Adams on 22 November 2008 when someone outside opened fire at about 5am. Bullets passed through a window, hitting her and two friends inside.
She was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries. Police have stressed that Landeros was an innocent bystander and had no involvement in any wrongdoing.
Investigators have not established what prompted the shooting. One possibility being examined is whether an altercation began after people who were not invited to the party were asked to leave, although there is no confirmation that this happened.
The case remains open, and Phoenix police and Landeros’s family are continuing to seek information that could identify the gunman. Detectives say people sometimes reveal details about their involvement years later, prompting witnesses to come forward.
