A pro-Palestine group is planning a protest outside Ed Sheeran’s Philadelphia show on September 19, following the removal of Macklemore from the tour.
The Philly Palestine Coalition is urging supporters to gather outside the Lincoln Financial Center, where Sheeran is due to perform. The group has criticised the decision to drop Macklemore after remarks about Palestine during his first two appearances as Sheeran’s support act in New Jersey.
A flyer for the demonstration carries the slogan: “Billionaires, Zionists & Warmongers out of Philly”.
Sheeran has denied making the decision to remove Macklemore from the tour. He said the call was made by the promoter after Robert Kraft and several other NFL team owners refused to allow Macklemore to perform at their stadiums.
Kraft said he did not want Macklemore at his stadium because of the rapper’s “recent actions” and past actions which he described as “deeply offensive” to the Jewish community.
The planned Philadelphia protest is the latest development in the dispute over Macklemore’s departure from Sheeran’s tour.
