Ross Kemp was murdered in plain sight on Celebrity Traitors after falling into a yawning trap set by Maya Jama and James Acaster, before Jerry Hall was banished from the castle hours later.
The EastEnders actor and the American supermodel had been caught in the Traitors’ latest scheme, which required them to make a Faithful yawn by subjecting them to deliberately dull conversation.
Ross was the first to yawn. After inhaling the show’s ‘deadly sleeping powder’, James confirmed the murder by asking: “Sorry Ross, am I boring you?”
Ross then opened an envelope which stated: “Dear Ross, by order of the Traitors, you have been murdered. The Traitors murdered you in plain sight.”
His exit proved an ironic one, given that his intense suspicion had been a recurring feature of the series. He had previously accused Bella Ramsey and Leigh-Anne Pinnock of murdering him in plain sight.
Explaining his paranoia after leaving the show, Ross said: “The whole environment just makes you paranoid. If you’re a fan of the show, you know that murder in plain sight happens.
“So, when someone puts a hat on you, or touches your arm, however innocently it might be, I don’t think I’m wrong in suspecting it.”
Maya appeared remorseful about the move, telling the camera: “Grant Mitchell, aka Ross Kemp, I loved you as a child, and I love you as a real person.
“You just fell into the worst trap ever, and I’m so sorry. Hopefully we can still be friends.”
Ross said he had remained true to himself and the Faithfuls, adding: “Well played, Traitors, but you’re always going to be Traitors, and I know where you live.”
Jerry Hall banished from Celebrity Traitors
Jerry escaped the murder plot but was soon eliminated at the next banishment. As she left the castle, host Claudia Winkleman announced: “Players, you just banished a legend.”
The 70-year-old, who walked for major fashion houses and designers from the 1970s to the 2000s, said the experience had been “so much harder than the catwalk”.
She added: “Apparently the reason I got voted off, everyone said, was because I was an icon, which didn’t sound like it was a very factual reason; I think they saw me as a threat.”
The episode also featured a tense mission at the Traitors’ lair, but the players failed to add any money to the £46,000 prize fund. James, Michael Sheen, James Blunt and Joanne McNally each secured a shield.
The episode ended with Miranda Hart, Sebastian Croft and Romesh Ranganathan facing the prospect of becoming the Traitors’ next victim.
