The planned Sunday morning hot-air balloon launch at the Plano Balloon Festival in Texas did not take place after weather conditions grounded the balloons.
The launch had been scheduled for 7am at Oak Point Park’s Red Tail Pavilion in Plano, as part of the H-E-B | Central Market Plano Balloon Festival.
Organisers had warned that balloon launches, displays and tethered rides could be restricted by adverse weather or wind speeds exceeding safe levels.
The four-day festival, which began on Thursday, features more than 40 hot-air balloons and special shapes, alongside live entertainment, food vendors and family activities. The 2026 event is the festival’s 47th year and is due to close on Sunday morning.
Hot-air balloon activities at the festival are weather-dependent, with balloons scheduled to appear only during designated morning and evening periods.
