Washington DC is set for a hot and humid Thursday, with temperatures rising to around 90F (32C) and showers possible at intervals across the region.
Most areas are expected to begin the day dry, although a few showers could affect the morning commute. The National Weather Service puts the chance of rain at 30 per cent, with thunderstorms also possible from late afternoon.
Any early rain should ease for a time, allowing partly cloudy or mostly sunny skies to develop and temperatures to climb. However, high humidity will keep the atmosphere unsettled into the evening.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to become more likely overnight, with the National Weather Service warning of an 80 per cent chance of rain. Between a quarter and half an inch of rainfall could fall in some areas.
Rain may continue into the early hours of Friday before easing around sunrise. Friday is expected to be drier and partly sunny, with a high near 84F (29C).
Further showers could return over the weekend. Saturday is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with a 60 per cent chance of rain and a possible thunderstorm, while Sunday may bring a few more showers before conditions improve.
Mostly sunny weather is expected to return on Monday, with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 80s.
