A second child has died after a single-vehicle rollover in Parwan, west of Melbourne, bringing the death toll from the crash to two.
Police said an 11-year-old boy, who had been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries, died overnight. A seven-year-old girl died at the scene despite attempts to revive her.
The crash happened shortly before 4pm on Tuesday near the intersection of Nerowie Road and Parwan-Exford Road. A 34-year-old woman and seven children were travelling in the eight-seater four-wheel-drive when it rolled.
Five other children were taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The driver was also taken to hospital for observation.
Ambulance Victoria said specialist air ambulance and intensive-care crews assessed all eight people involved. Several of the children were taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital, while others were treated at Sunshine Hospital in stable condition.
Detectives from Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
