Arsenal could explore a loan move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford after allowing Gabriel Martinelli to leave, according to The Independent.
The possibility has emerged late in the transfer window, with sources suggesting Rashford could be considered as a short-term replacement for Martinelli on the left side of Mikel Arteta’s attack.
Martinelli is closing in on a move to Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. The Brazilian has reportedly agreed personal terms, while the remaining details of the transfer are being finalised between the two clubs.
There has been surprise within Arsenal that Martinelli’s departure has been allowed to progress before a replacement was secured. Rashford is understood to be one option being assessed, although there is no indication that a deal with Manchester United is close.
The England international returned to Old Trafford this summer after spending last season on loan at Barcelona. His future remains uncertain, despite United head coach Michael Carrick having indicated that Rashford is still part of his plans.
Any move would depend on United’s willingness to sanction another temporary departure and whether Arsenal decide to recruit immediately after Martinelli’s exit.
