Roxy Jacenko is selling two rare New South Wales heritage number plates she bought as investments about 20 years ago, with the pair expected to raise more than A$200,000 at auction. The Sydney public relations executive has listed plates 1903 and 1908 separately through Collecting Cars after deciding to part with them following her move to Singapore. Jacenko paid about A$40,000 for each plate and said she had deliberately chosen them because of the limited supply of heritage registrations and their potential to increase in value. “I wanted to start collecting heritage plates as investments given the scarcity around them…

Australian politicians have condemned KPMG’s explanation for secretly searching a whistleblower’s laptop, questioning why the firm appeared more concerned about protecting its own information than investigating allegations of misconduct. Julian McPherson, KPMG Australia’s former head of audit, told a parliamentary inquiry in Canberra that he authorised the first search on 30 May 2024 — the same day the employee raised concerns about colleagues’ conduct and alleged retaliation. Mr McPherson said the search was ordered because executives feared the whistleblower might take confidential KPMG material while pursuing employment elsewhere. The explanation prompted sharp questioning from MPs, including Labor member Tania Lawrence.…
British banks are increasingly turning to the Bank of England for cash by pledging higher-risk credit assets, including loans linked to store cards, vehicle leases and small-business finance. Figures reviewed by Reuters show that lenders pledged £1.9 billion of the central bank’s highest-risk collateral category at its six-month funding auction on 18 August. That was the largest amount since March 2020 and three times the previous week’s total. The Bank of England has around £17.8 billion of so-called Level C collateral on its books through the Indexed Long-Term Repo facility, according to Reuters calculations. The figure has risen from £8.7…

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has described Alastair Clarkson’s sacking by North Melbourne as a sign of the growing volatility of the AFL coaching industry, saying the competition has become “almost like the EPL”. Clarkson was dismissed on Wednesday, September 2, after four seasons at Arden Street and with a year remaining on his contract. North Melbourne players were called to an emergency meeting before being informed that the four-time premiership coach would no longer lead the club. Beveridge, who worked alongside Clarkson at Hawthorn, said he was stunned when told of the decision during his weekly press conference. “Really?”…

The US Navy’s logistical crisis in the Iran war has been laid bare as the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln is replaced in the Middle East after an extended deployment that left supplies, maintenance and crew morale under severe strain. The Japan-based USS George Washington has taken over from the Lincoln, allowing the carrier and its roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines to begin the journey home. The changeover is intended to preserve the US Navy’s two-carrier presence in the region, but it does not resolve the supply problems facing ships operating there. The Lincoln arrived in Thailand on Wednesday for…
