The Powers Ferry Road bridge over the Chattahoochee River has been closed for a three-day rehabilitation project affecting drivers travelling between Cobb and Fulton counties.
Georgia Department of Transportation crews shut the bridge at 5am on Tuesday, 1 September, with the route due to reopen by 9pm on Thursday, 3 September, weather permitting.

Motorists are being directed to use Interstate North Parkway while work is carried out on the crossing. Drivers have been warned to allow extra time, particularly during peak periods, although officials have not confirmed how much delay the diversion could cause.
The $1.6 million scheme includes repairs to the bridge’s concrete overlay, edge beams, substructure and expansion joints. Georgia’s transport department also lists polymer overlay work, header repairs, painting to the superstructure and repairs to damaged areas around the abutments among the wider rehabilitation measures.
The project covers the Powers Ferry Road bridge and the nearby Interstate North Parkway bridge, both of which cross the Chattahoochee River. The state’s project records describe the work as a maintenance and bridge rehabilitation programme in Cobb and Fulton counties.
The Powers Ferry closure had previously been scheduled for 24 to 27 July before the work was rearranged. The current shutdown is expected to last three days, subject to weather and construction progress.
Drivers have been urged to slow down, remain alert and follow signs around the work zone while using the alternative route.
