Two people died and 11 were rescued after the Turkish-owned ship caught fire and sank on Monday. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed the incident on two Russian drones, although the source of the attack has not been confirmed. “A horrific strike by two Russian drones on a civilian vessel in neutral waters carrying corn and owned by Turkiye,” Mr Zelensky said. He accused Moscow…
Donald Trump says he will pay for the pro-Trump adverts that have appeared across US airwaves with money raised by his super PAC, MAGA Inc, following intense criticism of his administration’s use of public funds. The president said the decision would cover the “Patriotic Ads” and other promotional campaigns. He made the announcement in a post on Truth Social. “The Radical Left is upset with the fact that I am taking Ads, which I consider to be a positive promotion for our Great U.S.A., and paying for them with U.S.A. money,” Mr Trump wrote. He added: “This is a rather…

Detroit crime rates fell sharply over the summer, with officials reporting a particularly marked reduction in violence involving young people and just one juvenile homicide recorded between June and August. The figure represented an 89% fall compared with the same period in 2025, according to the Detroit Police Department. Officials stressed that one death was still one too many, but said the results marked one of the city’s lowest levels of violent crime on record. Detroit youth crime drop linked to summer programme Mayor Mary Sheffield and police chief Todd Bettison credited the city’s Occupy the Summer initiative, which provided…
Beetaloo Energy Australia has secured a 25 per cent stake in an emerging liquids play in Queensland’s Taroom Trough without making an upfront payment, extending the company’s unconventional energy interests beyond its Northern Territory gas projects. The US Supreme Court has heard arguments over whether a climate change lawsuit brought by Boulder, Colorado, against ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy can proceed in state court. The city and county claim the companies’ fossil fuel production and allegedly deceptive marketing contributed to global warming and left them facing extreme heat, more frequent and larger wildfires and damage to the ecosystem. Eight of the nine justices took part in nearly two hours of arguments in the case, Suncor Energy v Commissioners of Boulder County. Justice Samuel Alito recused himself, with the court giving no reason for his decision. Alito’s 2025…
