Speaking at a rally in Durant, Oklahoma, the president said: “Pretend I’m running, please, because I am on the ballot. And if we don’t win, they’ll end up impeaching me.” He also warned the crowd: “They’re going to ruin our nation if they’re allowed to get back into office.” The remarks come with less than a month to go before the elections, in which control of Congress will be…
Gen Z economic anxiety over jobs, housing and the prospect of artificial intelligence reshaping work is fuelling political disillusionment among students at Michigan State University and across the US. Their frustration is also feeding support for candidates who promise to challenge the political establishment. Frankie Llerandi, 21, is due to graduate in the spring with an economics degree and an interest in data analytics. But after three years at Michigan State, he has not…

Aaron Sorkin is revisiting Facebook’s rise and its wider consequences in The Social Reckoning, a new film inspired by whistleblower Frances Haugen’s disclosures about the company. The writer and director, who won an Oscar for The Social Network, said he had come to question the impact of his earlier portrayal of Mark Zuckerberg. The 2010 film helped shape the public image of the Facebook co-founder and the technology industry around him. Sorkin recalled that actor Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg, was unsettled when teenage boys asked him to sign business cards bearing the phrase “I’m CEO, bitch” – a line…

Warren Buffett filed his first tax return at the age of 14 after earning $592.50 from delivering newspapers in Washington DC, and owed the US government just $7. The two-page return, shared by the billionaire in 2017, shows how the future investor recorded income from his paper round alongside interest and dividends from shares he had bought. Buffett’s earnings were only slightly above the filing threshold in 1944. Under the rules at the time, anyone earning at least $500 was required to submit a federal tax return. His newspaper deliveries brought in $364, while a further $228.50 came from interest…
