The pair reviewed transcripts from the police investigation and other evidence that has emerged, considering how the material could be used in a potential trial. They set out the strongest arguments for prosecutors before examining how the men accused could seek to challenge the case and identify weaknesses in the evidence. The discussion considers…

Jules Kounde could leave Barcelona in January, with the club reportedly considering a sale while the France defender’s value remains high. Chelsea have been linked with a move for the 27-year-old, although the interest has not been confirmed. The latest reports from Spain suggest Kounde is no longer viewed as indispensable at Barcelona. The versatile defender has been an important player for the club in recent years, but his standing appears to have changed under manager Hansi Flick. Chelsea’s reported interest revives a long-standing link. The London club came close to signing Kounde in 2022, when he was still at…

Somalia will not accept an Israeli presence “under any circumstances”, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said, accusing Israel of seeking to establish a naval base and use an airport in the disputed port city of Berbera. In an interview, Mr Mohamud said the alleged plans were aimed at bringing Israel closer to the Gulf states and Iran. Berbera lies on the Gulf of Aden in Somaliland, the self-declared republic in north-western Somalia which is claimed by Mogadishu. The port faces Yemen, close to the Bab…

Donald Trump has leaked Republican senator Tom Cotton’s personal mobile number on Truth Social after criticising him over legislation to make daylight saving time permanent. Trump accused Mr Cotton of single-handedly blocking the Sunshine Protection Act in the Senate. The measure was described by the president as the “We Don’t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act”. The proposed legislation would keep Daylight Saving Time in place throughout the year, removing the need to change clocks twice annually. Arguing in favour of the bill, Mr Trump said avoiding the clock changes would benefit the nation and pointed to…

Perth Zoo is to build a dedicated black cockatoo hospital at its South Perth site as Western Australia prepares for the continuing threat of H5 bird flu. The zoo has awarded a $450,000 tender to Instant Transportables to supply and install four transportable buildings for the triage and care of black cockatoos. The final cost is expected to exceed half a million dollars because the tender does not cover fitting out the facility.
