Los Angeles County health officials are preparing an investigation into a property in the Fairfax District after reports that its yard has again become buried under rubbish and debris. The Environmental Health division of the county’s Department of Public Health will carry out a “site investigation” to assess accumulated waste, sanitation conditions and possible signs of vermin activity or infestation. At least one person was shot and suffered non-life-threatening injuries in northwest Harris County on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said. The shooting was reported shortly before 3.45pm near the junction of Veterans Memorial Drive and Broad Haven Drive, where Harris County authorities attended the scene. The identity of the victim has not been released. Officials have not said whether a suspect has been identified or disclosed a possible motive for the Harris County shooting. A Tennessee death-row inmate has regained consciousness after surviving a botched execution, telling lawyers she is “angry and confused” and aware that the state tried to kill her. Christa Pike, 50, was taken from the execution chamber to a Nashville hospital last week after two injections of pentobarbital failed to end her life. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has flown to meet sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and present them with a Presidential Unit Citation, as the aircraft carrier prepares to return to San Diego after more than 300 days at sea. The carrier’s crew are expected to arrive back on US soil on Thursday. Mr Hegseth travelled to meet the troops a day before their scheduled homecoming. The Presidential Unit Citation is the highest honour a military unit can receive. CCTV has captured the moments before and after a 17-year-old boy fell about 30 metres to his death from Hibernian House in Surry Hills, inner-city Sydney. Emergency services were called to the heritage-listed building in Elizabeth Street at about 9pm on Tuesday after reports that someone had fallen to the street.
