Los Angeles County health officials are preparing an investigation into a property in the Fairfax District after reports that its yard has again become buried under rubbish and debris.
The Environmental Health division of the county’s Department of Public Health will carry out a “site investigation” to assess accumulated waste, sanitation conditions and possible signs of vermin activity or infestation.
Recent photographs showed the property surrounded by refuse. Witnesses also reported seeing insects flying around the area, although the county said it had received no recent complaints and had not inspected the site since last year.
The department was previously involved with the house during a multi-agency clean-up operation carried out by the City of Los Angeles in 2025.
A spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office said the property owner is currently going through mental health court. The next hearing is scheduled for October 16.
If inspectors identify breaches requiring action, notices will be sent to the owner by certified mail and posted on the door where it is accessible.
The findings will also be passed to the Department of Mental Health and the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, which will consider whether further action is necessary.
The property has attracted attention over the years because of the large quantity of rubbish accumulated around the home.
