A common AI governance roadmap should be put into action before the United Nations’ next Global Dialogue in May, the authors of a new commentary have argued, as technology companies and financial authorities warn of growing risks from rapid development. The proposed measures include independent safety testing before new systems are released, published safeguards and clear monitoring and reporting of incidents after deployment. The call follows warnings from several leading AI executives about the possibility of losing control of advanced systems, as well as threats including cyberattacks and bioterrorism. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey, chairing the Financial Stability Board,…
Arsenal intend to keep Noni Madueke at the club beyond the January transfer window, despite the winger’s limited Premier League involvement and interest from Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Mikel Arteta is understood to view the 24-year-old as part of his plans, with the club expected to reject any approaches for the England international when the transfer window reopens. Madueke has made only two substitute appearances in the league this season, totalling 24 minutes without a goal or assist. His position has been further complicated by Bukayo Saka’s established role on the right and the emergence of teenager Max Dowman as…

US embassies across the Middle East have issued security alerts to American citizens amid heightened tensions and warnings that the situation could escalate unexpectedly. Embassies in Israel, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Jordan, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar urged US nationals to remain vigilant. The notices did not identify a specific threat, but warned of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruption. “Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation,” the alerts said. The warnings referred to recent fighting between Saudi Arabia and Iranian-backed Houthi militants in…

Donald Trump’s decision to bar CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House has intensified concerns about the information available to American voters before the 2026 midterm elections. In-person voting began on Friday, the day the president announced the ban. Journalists from the three organisations were denied entry the following day and had their White House credentials deactivated. The midterm elections on November 3 will be shaped by a range of issues, but the media and political spending are expected to play a significant role in how voters assess the candidates and their records. Trump’s media restrictions raise concerns…
Marcus Rashford’s injury has left Manchester United and England waiting for clarity after the forward was forced off during the 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage. United rescued a point late on when Matheus Cunha’s deflected effort found the net in the 89th minute, but the focus afterwards was on whether Rashford would be fit to join England. Carrick unsure over Rashford’s England availability Asked whether Rashford might have to withdraw…
Michigan State University has moved classes online on Monday, 21 September, after a campus-wide power outage left much of its East Lansing campus without hot water and disrupted dining facilities.
