US companies are being squeezed by tariffs, soaring fuel costs and higher interest rates, forcing businesses to raise prices, cut operations and carry more stock to protect themselves against further disruption. The pressure is particularly acute for manufacturers, transport firms and retailers, where more expensive raw materials and energy are colliding with rising borrowing costs. Smaller businesses are often most exposed because they depend more heavily on short-term finance. Allen Eden, who runs the 25-person Original Saw Co in Britt, Iowa, has been building up inventory as the price of aluminium, steel and essential components rises. A small bracket used…
Hayden Panettiere was remembered at a memorial service in Malibu on Saturday, attended by around 150 people including Paris Hilton, Evan Ross, Connie Britton and Charles Esten. The celebration of life for the actress was described by people with direct knowledge as “emotional and beautiful”. Lennon Stella and Jonathan Jackson were also among those present at the church ceremony. Britton and Esten delivered speeches during the service, while Esten sang one of Panettiere’s songs from the television series Nashville with a band assembled at the church. Guests watched doves being released outside before going inside for the memorial. Panettiere died…
Tottenham have reportedly rejected an approach from Shabab Al Ahli for Richarlison, leaving the Brazilian forward’s future at the north London club unresolved. The 29-year-old is understood to have fallen out of favour under Roberto De Zerbi after making clear during the summer transfer window that he wanted to leave. He was subsequently omitted from Tottenham’s Premier League squad. Richarlison’s Tottenham future remains uncertain Richarlison has struggled to maintain a regular role since joining Spurs from Everton in 2022. Injuries and competition for places have restricted his involvement, despite occasional glimpses of his ability. Shabab Al Ahli had emerged as…

It added that its investigators were working to keep local communities safe. Police have not…
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers has flagged further tax cuts as the government prepares to publish a 40-year economic forecast warning of serious pressures on the country’s budget and economy. The intergenerational report, due to be released on Monday, will say recent budget measures have reduced the tax burden on working-age Australians and created scope for additional relief in future budgets. Excerpts released ahead of its publication say the share of personal income tax paid by workers is expected to be two percentage points lower by the end of the medium term than it would have been without the reforms. That…
Donald Trump has said plans for a 250ft triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery will be converted into a military complex containing drones, snipers and ammunition storage. The US president said the change had been agreed “at the strong request of the United States Military” and for national security reasons. The structure is planned for a traffic circle near Arlington Memorial Bridge, across the Potomac River from Washington DC. In a post on Truth Social, Mr Trump described the project as a “top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch”. He said it would “house, store, and have the rapid ability to use…
Residents marched through Crowborough after a former military training camp began housing asylum seekers, with protesters objecting to the site’s size and its potential impact on the town. The temporary accommodation centre in Sussex is currently being used for up to 350 people, although plans could increase its capacity to 540. Demonstrators said they were concerned about safety and pressure on local services. Large numbers of residents gathered with banners reading “Crowborough says no”, while counter-protesters held signs including “migrants welcome”, “kindness is our strength” and “stronger together”. The demonstration was organised by the Crowborough Says No campaign group. Sussex…
Republican Congressman Jeff Hurd is presenting his differences with President Trump as a strength in his re-election campaign in Colorado. Rather than treating his breaks with the president as a liability, Mr Hurd is using them to argue that he is aligned with voters as he seeks to retain his seat.
Frontier Airlines is to introduce first-class seats on its Airbus fleet next year as the US budget carrier adapts its ultra-low-cost model to a market increasingly drawn to premium travel. The move, backed by chairman and airline investor Bill Franke, will be accompanied by the rollout of Starlink Wi-Fi as Frontier seeks to return to consistent profitability. Franke, 89, said the new cabin would not attempt to rival the luxury offered by the world’s leading full-service airlines. “We’re not trying to have a Singapore Airlines first class,” he said. “What we’re trying to do is give the consumer an option.”…
