Arsenal are considering Ivan Toney as a possible replacement for Viktor Gyökeres if the Sweden striker’s reduced role under Mikel Arteta eventually leads to an exit in January. The Gunners are not currently seeking to sell Gyökeres, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season. However, Kai Havertz remains Arteta’s preferred central forward, leaving uncertainty over how the former Sporting striker fits into the manager’s plans. TEAMtalk reports that Arsenal would only sanction a deal for Gyökeres if an elite replacement had already been secured. The club are understood to be reluctant to weaken their squad unless the incoming…
San Mateo County sheriff’s deputy Steven Romero has been charged with allegedly abusing his five-year-old son at the family home, according to court documents. The allegations concern conduct said to have taken place at Romero’s residence in California. The case was reported after KTVU obtained the court records. Romero is accused of child abuse, but the allegations have not been tested at trial. A charge is not a finding of guilt, and Romero has not been convicted of an offence.
Patriot Resources has secured five-year access to the Tassa Community’s land in southern Peru, clearing the way for surface exploration and drilling at its high-grade Tassa silver-gold project. The agreement covers the full range of surface exploration work, including drilling, across the portion of the project overlapping the community’s territory. Combined with an earlier agreement and a separate deal with the Pachamayo Community, it gives Patriot access across the entire project area. The arrangement also includes the recently pegged Tassa 5 tenement, extending the company’s interpreted silver-mineralised strike to more than 3km. Surface mapping and sampling are expected to begin…

Iran has launched a new wave of attacks against US targets in the Middle East after American forces destroyed five Iranian oil tankers, intensifying a six-month-old conflict and sending oil prices towards $100 a barrel. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted US vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while Iranian missiles were fired towards the Al-Azraq air base in Jordan, where American forces are stationed. Jordan’s armed forces said their air-defence systems intercepted 18 of 20 ballistic missiles launched from Iran. The remaining two fell in unpopulated areas and no casualties were reported, according…

Manchester United have ruled out a move for free-agent defender David Alaba, despite their continued need for reinforcements at centre-back and left-back. The Austria international, 34, has been without a club since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season. His experience and ability to operate in several defensive positions had made him a potential option for Michael Carrick’s side. However, reports indicate that United have decided against pursuing the former Bayern Munich player as the club shifts its recruitment policy towards younger players with greater long-term potential. The city’s latest approach includes further analysis of customer complaints, inspections of selected mains, water-quality testing, more systematic cleaning of the distribution network and continued monitoring of the results. Australia Post chief executive Paul Graham has rejected accusations that he misled a Senate committee about plans to close post offices, saying a leaked proposal was still at an “embryonic” stage and had not become an active programme. Mr Graham faced sustained questioning in Canberra on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, after documents outlining a plan to reshape the postal network became public. The proposal included the potential closure of up to 36 metropolitan outlets in New South Wales and Victoria, as well as changes to the way regional and rural post offices operate.
