Queensland businessman Ian Campbell and his daughter Hannah died when their light plane crashed at Stockleigh, south of Brisbane, on Monday 7 September.
The aircraft came down on a rural property near Musch Road shortly after 11am, having departed from Archerfield Airport at about 10.57am. The crash sparked a grass fire, which was tackled by eight Queensland Fire Department crews.
Queensland Police said the two people found inside the aircraft were a 56-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both from Ascot. They were declared dead at the scene.
Mr Campbell was the founder of Barambah Organics, a family-owned dairy business in Queensland, which he established with his wife, Jane. The Campbell family has farmed in the South Burnett region for generations and also founded Mañana Pastoral near Goondiwindi.
No one on the ground was injured and no nearby property was damaged, according to police. A safety cordon was established around the crash site while investigators examined the wreckage.
The Queensland Police Service is working with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which has deployed three investigators to the scene. Evidence, including aircraft components, is expected to be examined further at the bureau’s technical facilities in Canberra.
The cause of the light plane crash remains under investigation. Police have appealed for witnesses, or anyone with relevant CCTV, dashcam footage or other recordings of the aircraft before it went down, to come forward.
