San Francisco’s Market Street subway service was disrupted after a car drove into a Muni tunnel near The Embarcadero on Saturday afternoon.
The San Francisco Police Department said officers arrived at the tunnel entrance at Folsom and Embarcadero streets at about 3.46pm on October 24 and found the vehicle inside, after it had damaged city property.
Police said the driver had fled the scene and that the incident was being investigated as a hit-and-run. The car was later removed from the tunnel and towed away.
Muni suspended service between Van Ness Avenue and Embarcadero for the rest of Saturday while crews inspected and repaired the trackway. Shuttle buses were provided, while BART accepted Muni passengers between Embarcadero and Balboa Park.
No injuries were reported. Normal Muni train service resumed on Sunday morning after the repairs were completed.
